New Features

PME Mail – Auto delete confirmed SPAM

PME v. 8.06 automatically deletes mail detected as confirmed SPAM. Earlier such mail was placed in the deferred pool. The AutoDelete functionality is ‘Disabled’ by default. While enabling this feature, the Admin needs to specify the Response Code and action as applicable, so that users are aware of the reason(s) why such mail was deleted. Location: PME Mail > Outgoing > Rules > Outgoing Mail > Advance Setting

PME Web – Domain wise local account view

PME v. 8.06 allows the Admin to search Local Users and Gateway Users by Domain Name. Additionally the admin can also see that which user mapped to which domain. Location: PME > Admin UI > PostMaster > Manage Accounts > Users > User Manager

PME AntiVirus – AntiVirus MIS Report

With the new PME v. 8.06, the Admin can now check date wise MIS report of mails which are scanned by PME’s AntiVirus module. This will assist the Admin in determining virus detection patterns and take necessary pre-emptive measures to avoid future mishaps. Location: WebAdmin > PME Mail > AntiVirus > Logs > MIS

PME Web – Ability to check rights of multiple users at once

The new PME v. 8.06 allows the Admin to view rights of all users in one go. Earlier the Admin was only able to check the rights of a single user at a time. Location: PME > Admin UI > PostMaster > Manage Accounts > Users > User Manager

PME Core – Ability to remove unused QSM folder

PME v. 8.06 allows removal and backup of unused QSM folder on a different path. This will free up the space in the drive where PME is installed – causing PME to function faster. Note: This feature is an external utility for PME installed on Linux platform.

Feature Enhancements

Email account mapping with multiple domains

This feature enhancement enables the Admin to map an email account to multiple domains through the Basic account addition page. Earlier this was possible only through the Mapping page.

Copy/move mails to/from Public folder via IMAP

PME v. 8.06 enables users to copy/move mails to/from Public folder to System/Personal folder using IMAP commands.

Ability to access AddressBook via LDAP

This feature enhancement allows users to fetch PME contact details in AddressBook using LDAP. All contact details are fetched using Thunderbird email client. However, with PME LDAP server, MS Outlook currently displays the following fields only:

First Name, Display, Alias (employee Id), Title (Designation), Company, Department, Business and Phone No.

Ability to print AddressBook details

This feature enhancement enables the Admin and PME users to print the required personal details of email-ids present in their Personal, Local and Global AddressBook.

Location: WebMail > AddressBook

Account type displayed in user details

PME v. 8.06 allows the Admin to check the users’ account type – Gateway/Regular – once they export user details.

Location: WebMail > AddressBook

Ability to export Alias account details in Excel

With this feature enhancement, the Admin can export Alias details (Alias Name, Description, Email Address, Forwarding List, Allow Senders Type, and Sender List) to an Excel sheet for further processing.

Hide Forwarding Details

With this feature enhancement, In-Forwarding and Out-Forwarding details can be hidden based on flag ‘hide_crossref_details’. Earlier, all In-Forwarding and Out-Forwarding details were displayed by default which delayed the loading of the display page. Hence the ‘hide_crossref_details’ flag was added to ‘pmswitches.prp’, which when set to set to ‘true’, hides all in/out forwarding details – resulting in the display page loading instantly.

Location: WebAdmin > PostMaster > Manage Accounts > Cross Ref > Email In Forward

Location: WebAdmin > PostMaster > Manage Accounts > Cross Ref > Email Out Forward

Responsive WebMail

PME v. 8.06 comes with an entirely revamped User Interface that is highly responsive. The revamp is a 2 phase process. Phase1 focuses on WebMail features except AntiSpam, AddressBook, Spool and Public Folders functionality – these will be part of the Phase 2 revamp. The responsive UI is best viewed on Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 10 and above browsers.

Issue Fixes

  • The ‘Move’ option has been added to WebMail to enable users to move mails to desired folders for better mail management.

PME-WebAdmin

  • Earlier, while attempting to send multiple attachments, if users exceeded their allotted mail size quota, they received an incorrect bounce alert saying ‘Workflow License Does Not Exist’. To resolve this the Admin needs to reconfigure the Alert type through configuration settings from UI via the Admin console:
  • Go to PostMaster > Core Settings > Alerts > Mail > Select the Alert Type as Upload Mail Restriction from the drop-box menu.
  • In Mail Body, enter the appropriate alert message related to quota exceed alert for oversize mails. On submission of this information, the respective alert shall be displayed for oversize mails.

PME-WebCal

  • An issue relating to meeting request reminder (via email) not functioning properly has been resolved.

PME MailingList

  • While conducting email campaigns, sometimes double images were displayed on Outlook Express. The issue has been resolved by fixing the concerned code.

PME-WebMail

When users attempted replying to mails from PME ‘Sent Items’, the system inserted the users’ email ids in the ‘To’ and the other email ids in the “CC” field. This issue has now been resolved – only the email ids originally present in the email are inserted in the reply, in the respective ‘To’ and ‘CC’ fields.

PME Core

  • When authentication mode in PME was set to ‘ADS’, the Admin was unable to reset password for users with authentication mode ‘Self’. Such users were also unable to reset their own password through PME Webmail. This issue has been resolved.

Release Notes: PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.05

Release Date: Apr, 2014

Release Notes for PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.04 provides details about new enhancements in PostMaster Enterprise.

Abbreviations

This guide contains the following abbreviations:

Abbreviation Description
PME PostMaster Enterprise

New Features

PME Core – Replace PME License

PME v. 8.05 enables the Administrator to replace PME license through the WebAdmin interface. Earlier the Administrator was required to manually shutdown, unzip and copy the new license, and then restart PostMaster. With this new enhancement all this can be accomplished through a few simple clicks. Location: WebAdmin > PostMaster > Configure > License

PME Core – HTTPS URL Prefix

PME v. 8.05 allows the use of HTTPS as well as HTTP protocols for links within Workflow and Mail Moderation. This will enable users to perform moderation and workflow activities by clicking on the embedded links within the email even if PME is running on HTTPS (secure server). Location: WebAdmin > PME Mails > Advanced > Others

Feature Enhancements

Content-based Search in LDAP

PME v. 8.05 enables users to perform content-based search for email ids using the ‘CONTAINS’ filter. Hence, if a user were to search for email ids using ‘CONTAINS=master’ in the LDAP, the result would shows all email ids containing the string ‘master’. e.g. postmaster@qlc.in, grandmaster@qlc.in, etc. Note: To enable this functionality the Admin needs to set the flag ‘contain_search_type’ to ‘true’ in the ‘pm_switches.prp’ file.

Identify IP address in Last Access Detail Report

This feature enhancement allows the Administrator to know exactly which IP had last accessed a particular service. It comes handy especially while determining the root cause of an issue and taking appropriate measures to resolve it. Location: WebAdmin > PostMaster > Others > Sync Server

Display primary Domain Name in SMTP Relay response

Some SMTP Servers may require domain name to be sent along with SMTP relay response. With this new feature enhancement the Primary Domain name will get displayed in the SMTP relay response. Note: To enable this functionality, the Admin needs to edit the ‘pme.bat/pme.sh’ file and add the ‘-DSBWD=Y’ flag.

Instant delivery of Moderated mail

Earlier, post moderation, the mails used to get stuck in the ‘Deferred’ spool for almost 5 minutes. PME v. 8.05 sends these mails directly to active spool, reducing the in-between delays

  • An issue relating to users not being able to engage in group chat through PME ChatServer has been resolved.
  • When the ‘login_samewindow’ flag was set to ‘true’ along with ‘Reset Password on First Login’ field for a user, the ‘Reset Password’ page wouldn’t display after login into PME WebMail. This issue has been resolved.

  • An issue relating to users being unable to view mail if PME IMAP account was configured in Nokia Lumia has been resolved.

PME- SyncML

  • An issue relating to the inability to update/delete synced events has been resolved.
  • Earlier the Events/Contacts added in MS Outlook/Thunderbird before installing Funambol was not getting synced post the installation. Release Notes: PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.00

Release Date: May 14, 2012

Release Notes for PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.00 provides details about new enhancements in PostMaster Enterprise.

Abbreviations

This guide contains the following abbreviations:

Abbreviation Description
PME PostMaster Enterprise

Feature Enhancements

Web mail

PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.00 features a spanking new Web mail interface, that’s going to delight your end-users. Making it even easier for you to migrate them away from desktop email clients in case you were considering this for the obvious security benefits. The Web mail interface also incorporates the following enhanced functionality:

Priority Inbox

This functionality allows your users to have ‘important’ messages displayed distinctly and separately from the rest of their email, with an easy-to-use mechanism of teaching the system what’s important to them. For example, classifying a particular sender as important would ensure that messages from that sender would show up in the Priority Inbox, and thus stand out from the rest of the Inbox contents.

Handle Calendar Invitations

Manage calendar invitations seamlessly from within Web mail, regardless of which client was used to send the invite. And when you accept the invitation, the meeting is now automatically published to your Calendar in PME v.8.00 Note: The user must have the Calendar functionality enabled in PME v.8.00 for this functionality to work.

Enhanced HTML Editor

Composing messages gets even more easy, with more formatting options, and support for Copy-Paste from Microsoft Word and Excel. So that you can cut down on attachments, and capture the information in the message body.

Enhanced Search

The Advanced Search mechanism lets you use multiple criteria in and/or combinations for more precise searching across your messages.

Enhanced Action-Bar

Acting on your messages gets even more easy with the new PME Web mail. Now when you select a message, the actions you can perform on the mail – Reply, Reply All, Forward, Forward As Attachment and Delete, appear on the top pane. So just choose your action and get going!

Forward Multiple Messages as Attachment

Business users will have experienced situations where multiple messages, typically in a mail-trail, need to be forwarded out. PME Web mail makes this as simple as point and click – just select all the messages you need to forward, and then send them out as attachments in a single message.

Open Messages In Separate Windows

There are situations where you need to refer to multiple messages simultaneously to compose your reply. So PME Web mail now allows you to open multiple messages, each in its own window so that you can access all of them conveniently, even as you compose your reply in a separate compose window.

Core Platform

Some of the most important enhancements in PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.00 are those at the core platform level, which by and large would be invisible to end-users, but will delight administrators and support staff.

Automated Cloud Backup of PME Configuration Files

PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.00 now comes with a built-in insurance to help you recover from unanticipated hardware failure or system crashes. All the essential configuration data can be backed up into the Cloud, so that if you’re ever faced with a disaster situation of having to restore PME from scratch, your users and other configuration can be accessed from their ‘disaster-proof’ storage, and PME v.8.00 will be up and going in a few clicks.

Highly Optimized Mail Handling

Some of the most significant improvements in PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.00 are in the dramatic improvements in its throughput and efficiency in message handling, which, while being largely invisible, will delight both administrators and end-users. While the downloading & remote sending of messages always happened in multiple threads, the handling of messages internally has gotten turbo-charged in PME v.8.00, with multi-threading that can be configured by the administrator. If you have a large user-base, you’re going to really appreciate the boost in delivery speed. PME v.8.00 also provides for separate handling of large messages, ensuring that smaller but potentially more important messages do not get held up due to message size. Since the size limit can vary from one organization to another, PME v.8.00 lets the administrator define the normal size-limit, above which a message would be processed separately.

Enhanced Internal DNS for Improved Direct Delivery

The internal DNS has been tuned up, thus ensuring improved mail-delivery speeds where PME is set to deliver directly, without an SMTP-relay.

All Internal Alerts Can Be Customized

All internal and external alerts generated by PostMaster Enterprise ver. 8.00 can be rewritten and customised as per your organisation’s requirements. So whether it is to make them more informative by letting people know who to contact, or to incorporate statutory content, you’re in charge.

PME-Robot Can Now Act on Spam Mail

Administrators can now set rules that will act on offending messages before they land into user mailboxes; this can be particularly useful in ensuring that offensive content gets trapped within the system, and is not allowed to impact your server-reputation.

User Level Limits on Outgoing Mail

PostMaster Enterprise ver.8 incorporates more functionality to distinguish between users for whom email is a critical part of their functioning and others; administrators can now set limits on the messages that can be sent out by a user in a day, to minimize casual/personal email. This also serves as a safeguard in the event of an end-user machine being compromised by malware and being used to broadcast spam/junk email. Given the increasing incidences of security breaches by spammers, this feature in PME v.8.00 provides an additional level of safety to ensure that your sender IP does not get compromised by a compromised end-user machine – by limiting the number of messages that a particular end-user can send per minute, and blocking outbound messages if this threshold is breached.

Enhanced Mail Handling on Hybrid Networks

If you’re using PostMaster Enterprise along with any other mail-server(s), to make what we call a hybrid network, you’ll be delighted with the improved functionality, efficiency and ease of configuration in routing mail among your users and domains.

Proxy

Time-Based Access of Specified Sites

The Proxy module now lets you allow time-based access to sites – so for instance, if you want to allow your users to access their personal email, or social networking sites during lunch or after office-hours, you can now do that. After all, a happy end-user is more likely to be a productive employee!

Enhanced Screening of Malicious & Objectionable Web-sites

Malicious and objectionable content continues to be the biggest concern of organizations across the globe, and the Proxy module addresses this by increasing its filter definition categories by almost 200% – from 7 to 20! To ensure that you’re even better protected from issues ranging from sexual-harassment to credit-card fraud!

Restriction Over-ride for Privileged Users

All rules need to allow for exceptions, and so the Proxy module allows you to exclude users from the generally applicable rules; this allows for greater ease and flexibility in creating and maintaining your organisation’s Internet usage policy – you no longer need to provide everyone with access to social networking sites, simply because the Marketing department needs to access them!
